To really get to know Venice, it’s not enough to just visit the mainland. A trip to Venice Islands is well worth it, to get to know these charming little villages in the middle of the water! With Rome Private Guides’ 4 hour half day trip to Venice Islands, you will visit the fascinating islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello. You will be accompanied by a private driver with boat and an English-speaking tour escort to point out all the places of interest whilst you explore. If you prefer to be accompanied by a fully licensed private guide then this is no problem, please do not hesitate to ask.
The first stop on your Venice Islands trip will be a visit to the famous island of Murano. Murano is most famous for its glass-blowing. This world-class art dates back to the Venetian Republic in the 13th Century and is used to create beautiful figurines, bowls, plates and much more. During your visit to Murano you will enjoy a complimentary glass-blowing demonstration where you will learn all about the fascinating technique used. Why not pick up an authentic glass souvenir to take home with you?
Next you will go the charming Venice Island of Burano. You will enjoy taking photos of this picturesque island with its gorgeous, brightly-colored homes. It is a lovely town to take a stroll around and soak up its atmosphere. In fact, it has been a popular destination with artists for many years. Burano is also famous for its lace-making. Carry on your souvenir shopping for some Burano lace!
Finally, you will go to a Venetian island in the far north of the lagoon, Torcello. Perhaps surprisingly, Torcello was actually the first island to be populated continuously. It actually held the largest population in the Republic of Venice and was an incredibly important trading center. Nowadays you wouldn’t be able to believe it, as it has a tiny population of just a handful of people! Unfortunately a lot of the Medieval buildings are no longer in existence, as many of the buildings were recycled in order to build on Venice’s mainland. However, you can still visit the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, with its stunning Byzantine mosaics.
If you are curious to get to know Venice in its entirety, then don’t miss our half-day trip to Venice Islands- you will explore the Venice Islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello in comfort and without stress!
